Christian EducationUpdate, April 2007 Adventist Church schools are very muchneeded in India as public schools operate six days a week, Monday through Saturday. In 2001, under God's guidance and inspiration, Chadalawada School was started in an old shed with 22 students, and ended the year with 72 students. Currently there are 236 students divided into ten different classes starting with Kindergarten 1 and 2, and grades one through five, with a staff of 20. At present, classes meet in temporary rooms in an unfinished apartment. Many more children are waiting to enroll as soon as the new building is completed. We praise God for dedicated principal and teachers who model the love of Christ to the students, parents and the community. Construction of the new school building progresses slowly due to lack of funds. By the grace of God, we raised $130,000 for the building project. Cost of construction has doubled since we began in 2005. We need $144,000 more to complete the school building. God willing, we hope to have the ground floor ready by June 1, when the new school year begins. -- Public schools in India conduct classes six days a week, Monday to Saturday. So, in 2001, the Chadalawada English Medium School began with 22 students in a renovated shed in grades Lower Kindergarten to 2nd grade and ended the year with 72 students. Today we have 210 students from Lower Kindergarten to Fifth grade, still operating from the renovated shed of 30 feet by 25 feet, and spilling over to the church next door. This is not conducive to the needs of the teachers for instruction. Hundreds of students are waiting to join if we have a permanent school building. Church schools are great witnessing tools. Ninety percent of children who attend this school are from non-Christian homes. There are many more children who are waiting to join our school, but lack of space prohibits them from joining. We need $200,000 to construct a new school building on the land that has already been purchased by the Chadalawada family. We have raised $47,000 thus far. ![]() ![]() Lunch on church verandah ![]() Crowded classroom in the shed |
